Beginner basics
Where to go
Chicama is a remote, cold-water, world's-longest left point — not a typical learning destination. The inside section near the pier ('El Hombre' inside) on a small day is the most manageable area.
What to avoid
Don't try to paddle from the top of the point on any day until you have the fitness — it's hundreds of meters of paddling between sections. Cold water means full wetsuit, hood, and booties.
Best beginner conditions
Wait for a small SW swell (knee-to-waist), light S wind, mid-incoming tide. Honestly: if you're a true beginner, learn at Huanchaco or Máncora first and visit Chicama later.
