Beginner basics
Where to go
Zicatela itself ('Mexican Pipeline') is one of the heaviest beach breaks on the planet — not a beginner zone at any size. Carrizalillo, the small protected cove a short drive away, is where lessons happen.
What to avoid
Stay completely out of the main Zicatela lineup. The shorebreak alone has put pros in the hospital, and the rip will pull you straight back outside even if you survive a wipeout.
Best beginner conditions
Skip Zicatela and learn at Carrizalillo or La Punta on small days only. Knee-to-waist S swell, light N wind, mid tide.
