Beginner basics

Where to go

Padang Padang itself ('Balinese Pipeline') is one of the heaviest waves in Bali — never a beginner wave. Padang Padang Right (a separate small wave next to the main left) on a small day is approachable for upper beginners.

What to avoid

Stay completely off the main left at Padang. The reef is a few feet deep at takeoff; one wipeout can be a hospital visit. The main lineup is locals + pros only.

Best beginner conditions

Padang Padang is not a learning wave. Learn at Kuta or Batu Bolong (Canggu). Visit Padang to watch and admire only.
