Beginner basics

Where to go

There is no beginner area at Pipeline. Watch from the beach — you don't surf here unless you're paddling at expert level and have been invited by the lineup.

What to avoid

The lineup, the inside (still in the impact zone), and the entire reef. People die here every year and even the world's best get held down. Stay out of the water.

Best beginner conditions

Pipeline is never beginner-friendly. For a true first session on Oahu, head to Waikiki (listed in this app) and take a lesson at Canoes or Queens.
