Beginner basics
Where to go
The 1st-Street side of the resort area has a mellow beach break used by surf schools. Pick a stretch with no pier in sight and lifeguards on duty.
What to avoid
Don't surf next to the pier pilings — getting washed into them is a real injury risk. In summer, stay outside the swim-only flagged zones to avoid conflict with bathers.
Best beginner conditions
Knee-to-waist NE or E swell on 9s+, light W or SW wind, mid tide. Late-spring and early-fall mornings are the friendliest windows.

Summer setup
