Beginner basics
Where to go
Bondi's south corner (near the surf clubs) is where most learner schools operate — sand-bottom, lifeguarded, gentle reforms. Stay between the red and yellow flags.
What to avoid
Avoid the famous 'Backpackers' Express' rip — it forms in the middle of the beach and pulls strongly seaward. Stay off the North End reef setups (Ben Buckler) until you're competent.
Best beginner conditions
Knee-to-waist E or SE swell, 9-11s period, light W wind, mid tide. Early mornings before the city wakes up are calmest.

Summer setup
