Beginner basics

Where to go

Snapper / Superbank is one of the most contested lineups on Earth — not a beginner zone. Rainbow Bay (just inside Snapper) on a small day or Greenmount Point inside is more manageable for an upper beginner.

What to avoid

Stay completely off the Snapper takeoff rock. The lineup runs on strict pecking order; dropping in will get you screamed at. The rip through the cove pulls hard out toward the lineup.

Best beginner conditions

Wait for a small day (waist-high E swell, sub-3 ft), light W or SW wind, mid to high tide. For genuine learning, head to Coolangatta Beach or Currumbin Alley instead.
