Beginner basics
Where to go
Itamambuca is one of São Paulo coast's friendlier waves on a small day. The right-side reform between the main peak and the river mouth is the mellowest area for an upper beginner.
What to avoid
Stay off the main left-point peak — it's contested and there are competitions almost every weekend. Don't paddle into the river mouth rip on the north end; it pulls hard.
Best beginner conditions
Knee-to-chest S or SE swell, 9-11s period, light N wind, mid to low tide. Weekday mornings outside contest weekends are the calmest.
