Beginner basics

Where to go

Itaúna's main peak is a powerful, contested wave — not a true learning spot. The smaller inside reforms on a small day, well away from the peak, can work for an upper beginner.

What to avoid

Avoid the main Itaúna peak entirely on any size, and any day with WSL events or trials happening (the lineup will be full of pros). Strong rip pulls toward the rocks on the right.

Best beginner conditions

Wait for a small day — waist-high S or SE swell, light N wind, any tide. For a true first session, head to Praia da Vila or Itaúna's far north end on a flat morning.
