Beginner basics

Where to go

Noronha is a world-class destination with serious reef breaks and limited access — not a beginner trip. Praia do Cachorro and Praia do Meio sometimes have a tiny inside that beginners can play in, but most of the island isn't appropriate.

What to avoid

Cacimba do Padre, Boldró, and the outer reefs on any swell are off-limits to beginners — the reefs cut deep and the currents are strong. Don't paddle out alone anywhere on the island.

Best beginner conditions

Noronha really isn't a learning destination. If you're already there on a flat day, take a lesson at Praia do Meio. Otherwise learn at Pipa or Itamambuca first.
