Beginner basics
Where to go
Praia da Concha (the protected town beach) is calm and good for total first-timers. For actual surf, the beach side at Tiririca on a small day works once you're standing up.
What to avoid
Don't try the rocky points (Engenhoca, Resende, Itacarezinho) until you can read a pointbreak — the rocks and sea urchins at low tide are punishing. Tiririca's main peak is crowded and competitive.
Best beginner conditions
Knee-to-waist S or SE swell, light W or NW wind, mid to high tide. Off-season weekdays (May–August) are quietest.
