Current: 9.4 ft @ 8s • 27 mph wind. wave height is okay but not doing the heavy lifting period is middling and not a big factor either way strong wind is adding a lot of bump and texture wind direction is fighting the banks and shape

Wind-blown and soft — 9.4 ft with onshore winds chopping it up. Tide shift to low around 4:45 AM could change the picture.

Beginner basics

Where to go

Fistral's south end and the smaller protected Towan/Great Western beaches in town are where Newquay surf schools take students. Stay between the lifeguard flags.

What to avoid

Avoid the famous North Fistral peaks (where the contests run) and any visible rip channel — Cornwall rips are no joke. Cold water year-round means a 4/3 wetsuit minimum.

Best beginner conditions

Knee-to-chest W or NW swell, 9-11s period, light E wind, mid tide. Late spring through early autumn is the friendliest window.
