Beginner basics
Where to go
Mundaka is a legendary, heavy river-mouth left with strong currents and heavy localism — not a learning wave. The town's harbor is calm but doesn't break; learning happens at Laga or Bakio nearby.
What to avoid
The main Mundaka peak on any size. The river current can sweep you across the bay; the lineup is small, contested, and locals are not welcoming to outsiders dropping in.
Best beginner conditions
Mundaka is never beginner-friendly. Drive 15 minutes to Laga (sand-bottom beach break) or further to Bakio for a more forgiving wave.
