Beginner basics

Where to go

J-Bay's Supertubes is a world-class right pointbreak with sharks, rocks, and serious power — not a beginner wave. Kitchen Windows and the inside reforms at Point on a small day are the more manageable areas.

What to avoid

Stay completely off Supertubes proper. Don't drop in on any local — etiquette is enforced. Real shark risk; check recent advisories and surf with others.

Best beginner conditions

Wait for a small SW swell (waist-high), light W or NW wind, mid tide. Better to learn at Wavecrest or Cape St. Francis nearby before trying any J-Bay section.
