Beginner basics

Where to go

Panoramas, Banana Beach, and Crocro Beach are the area's beginner-friendly waves — sand-bottom and gentler than the famous points. Most surf camps run lessons here.

What to avoid

Stay off Anchor Point, Killer Point, and Boilers on any swell — they're rocky, fast, and crowded with competent regulars. The reef rocks will end your trip.

Best beginner conditions

Knee-to-chest NW or W swell, 11s+ period, light E wind, mid to high tide. October–April is the consistent season; pack a 3/2 wetsuit.
